Nokia N900 Review: The Camera

Camera

Rating: Non-functional.  0 out of 10.

The camera is almost outstanding, if it would work, it would be a 9 out of 10... until the software comes into play. The camera and all video applications stop working 2 weeks ago because of a software bug.  After multiple reboots, it started working for a few days, and then stopped working again.  No amount of rebooting will cajole the software to work.  I read through the discussion forums (this seems to be my full time job now as an N900 owner) and it seems I need to install some Linux program through the command line, but I wasn't able to figure this out.  I am not a Linux user, I will probably have to visit a DeVry school and try to get an aspiring IT administrator to fix it for me.

When it did work... the camera was outstanding.  The picture quality blew away the iPhone and was better than the Touch.  This phone actually rivals a stand alone camera.

Right now, when i try to take a picture, i get an error message that says

OPERATION FAILED

That's it.  Game over with the camera because of a software bug.  Good times.

  1. This is because you have tried to install the power kernel and FCamera without the proper updated fcamera drivers. Just a guess. And none of that would have been possible if you hadn't been dinking around installing expert-level software without - obviosuly - being an expert.

In plain Swedish: To be able to break the phone like this, YOU have had to do some things that only experts should do. You have installed something. YOU broke it. Don't blame the device for YOUR error.
